Biography/Statement
|
Nelson Muller (b. 1960, Chicago IL, but raised in the land of mermen) Studied photography under the inspiration of International surreal photographer, Jerry Uelsmann and his acolytes at the University of Florida, where he received
his BFA in fine art photography in 1983. Nelson is a graphic designer and photographer that loves to explore intimate moments of life using collage and photography to explore his muse. His work plays with a lot of fantasy, magic realms, and storytelling. “ I love working with the unexpected, things we don’t know or can’t be explained. I work a lot with the written word. I love how a story can move you and take you to new places. I use the male nude in my work and try to push the boundaries of what might be considered taboo.” He has been showing his work on the East Coast for the past 30 years and was a member of MDH Fine Arts Gallery in NYC and the McGuffy Art Center in Charlottesville VA. He has been published in numerous publications including BLUE Magazine, Instigator and The Leslie Lohman Foundation Magazine. His work resides with many collectors across the country in some wonderful bathrooms. He currently resides in Baltimore MD. |
Statement
I like the unexpected and things we don’t know or that can’t be explained. I play with ideas from the past and present and try to meld those two together. I love working with the male nude on multiple levels, pushing the boundaries of the male nude and how it is expressed in art. Often the written word inspires me. I love how a story can move you and take you to new places. Erotic to me is what is going on in the mind. I am always amazed what people bring to my work through their eyes and experiences. I love taking people on a journey they might not have imagined about something familiar.
